We had driven down to Barcelona from Valencia and had reached the garage to park the car. My brother-in-law's Spanish had improved rapidly during our travel and he told the attendant that we loved Spain. Instant reaction: You are in Catalan country ;-)
Most of us have heard about Barcelona: FC Barcelona and Messi, the Mobile World Congress, La Ramblas, Sagrada Família, Picasso, Museums, Gateway to Ibiza, etc. Barcelona had possibly the maximum number of tourists we encountered in any Spanish city. They seem to have come from all over the world but predominantly American and Western European.
We managed to see what the best of what Barcelona had to offer and enjoyed some great food. The Montjuic Fountain, the Picasso Museum and Camp Nou are all worth a visit. Walking around La Ramblas and the surrounding areas is what all tourists would do. We attended mass at the Sagrada Familia Chapel where Antonio Gaudi is buried but skipped seeing the inside of the main church (too crowded and the real beauty is perhaps the building outside as per prior visitors). Ibiza is a flight away and was not on the agenda ... maybe next time.
We drove back to Madrid on our way to Istanbul and stopped to take photos in Zaragoza, which has interesting stories. Spain: Put it on your bucket list
